What is a discovery session?

A discovery session is a free 30-minute booking with Andrew.

This gives both you and him the opportunity to meet, have a chat about what you’d like to achieve or gain from your music lessons. Most of all, it gives you the chance to see if you would want to engage with Andrew in paid lessons before making a financial commitment!

You will then have the opportunity to play the instrument or sing through a couple of songs so Andrew can see what level you are at.

At the end of the session, you will have another chat with Andrew where he will talk to you about how the lessons would be structured and any specific areas he think you would benefit from working on.

Do I need to commit to a certain number of lessons?

In short, no!

You are free to have as many or as little lessons as you would like.

There are discounts available for block bookings but, if you would prefer to Pay As You Go, this is absolutely fine too!

Do you offer one off coaching to help me prepare for an exam/audition etc?

Andrew has helped lots of people with one-off coaching sessions to help them prepare for an audition! Just let us know when you enquire and Andrew can definitely help you!

How long will my lessons be?

You can chose the duration of your lesson from 3 options – 30 minutes, 60 minutes or 90 minutes.

What happens if I don’t like it half-way through a block booking?

Andrew offers a free 30-minute discovery session to avoid this exact scenario. During your discovery session, you will get the opportunity to see if you like Andrew and whether you would want to work with him further.

Once a block booking has been made, these are non-refundable.

Do you teach children?

Yes; of course!

However, there are some important things to consider when enrolling children into music lessons. These are:

  • The size of the child and the instrument
  • The child’s level of interest in music and/or the instrument chosen
  • The child’s attention span

If you aren’t sure if music lessons would be appropriate for your child, please just get in touch! We are happy to have a chat with you, or even invite you for a discovery session so Andrew can help you decide!

Is there an upper age limit?

Absolutely not!

Although it is possible for someone to start too early, it is never too late to begin learning to sing, or play an instrument!

Sign up today for your free discovery session!

Are you DBS checked?

Yes! I renew my DBS certificate annually.

Are you insured?

Yes – the safety and security of my students is of the utmost importance to me so all necessary safety precautions and insurances are in place.

Do you provide group lessons?

For vocal or instrumental tuition, Andrew doesn’t offer group lessons.

This is to each student gets the benefit of Andrew’s knowledge and expertise on a 1:1 basis and is able to get the most value and benefit from their sessions.

For Music Theory tuition, group lessons are available.

Will I have to take exams?

Not if you don’t want to!

There is the option of taking graded examinations but this is not mandatory!

Often, Andrew will use some of the material from the graded examinations to teach but this is simply because the content is a good place to start and provides a progressive approach to building your skills, knowledge and playing abilities of your chosen instrument.

If you’d like to take exams, have a chat with Andrew during one of your sessions and you will decide together where is the best place to start!

What stylers of music do you teach?

Andrew is an extremely versatile and knowledgeable teacher. He is alble to teach a number of different styles. Speak to us bout what your preferences are. If Andrew doesn’t think he is best placed to teach you in your chosen style, he can help you find a teacher who would be best placed to teach you.

How many sessions should I have per week?

Quite simply, your wish is my command! You tell me how many sessions you would like to have every week, and we will make it happen!

What if I can’t make a session

We understand that things happen which means you might not be able to make one of your sessions.

Andrew asks for 48 hours notice to cancel your lesson. If circumstances mean that you can’t provide this notice, you can reschedule your lesson to within the same week.

If you are unable to provide the 48 hours notice, and can’t make another time during the same week, or Andrew is unable to fit in your rescheduled session, unfortunately your lesson will be forfeited and the full cost of the lesson will be due.

Do I need to bring anything with me to my sessions?

Just you!

If you have particular things you would like to cover, it would be a good idea to bring any lyrics or music with you.

For singing lessons, please make sure you bring 3 songs that you would like to cover. This avoids unnecessary delays in finding a song for us to work on.

I am so grateful to Andrew. My daughter decided she wanted to audition for a school performance but was very nervous. I decided booking a few lessons would be beneficial for her. I luckily found Andrew, he made himself available for 3 lessons before the audition later that week. My daughter left after each lesson feeling more confident and so animated about all that Andrew had taught her. We plan on continuing lessons with Andrew, he has a heart of gold!

Had the pleasure of taking drum lessons with Andrew. I could not be happier with my decision, he is an excellent teacher. His music knowledge is diverse and he teaches multi-instruments, is an active musician, has patience, challenges you and helps you out going through any exercise. I extended now my program with him and will continue so over the summer and more. I completely recommend him.

Andrew's been nothing but kind and respectful so far which as a beginner is perhaps one of the most reassuring qualities you may not always find. The teachers I trust the most are always the ones who adapt what and how they teach based on the student and I'm happy to say Andrew is always adapting and switching up techniques to find what works for me. I'd highly recommend getting in contact with him even if you're on the fence.

I've only had a few lessons with Andrew so far but to say I am so excited to carry on and learn more is an understatement. I have so much fun trying new exercises - which is something he is very well versed in and you can tell he has gone through this before too. I have already become a lot more confident which is a lot for me since I have never sung in public before. If you're looking for a teacher regardless of your experience, definitely try Andrew! Highly recommend!!

I've only had two sessions with Andrew and already I feel so much more confident singing and an SO excited to grow and share this journey with Andrew. Andrew has a fantastic teaching pace, culture and encouragement. He has already touched on multiple techniques and singing methods within the first session which for me, is great! He is also able to go slow and revisit parts I find more challenging. I had never sang in front of any one my whole life (I am 25!) and he got me belting in our first session! I highly recommend Andrew to anyone looking to start singing or other musical theory and instruments that he teaches in! Thank you Andrew!
