Andrew’s love for music started at just 3 years old, when he began playing the Steel Drum. He spent a large part of his youth playing in Steel Bands and participating in competitions. His talent for Music was very quickly realised and he went on to study the Drum Kit, Saxophone, Piano and Voice. 

In 2008, Andrew was awarded a place at the prestigious BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. Here, he spent 4 years perfecting his craft and performing in many high profile shows and events.

At just 15 years old, Andrew began teaching Steel Pan at a local community project and then went on to begin private tuition in Piano and Music Theory.

Throughout his 20s, Andrew was a successful senior manager in the hospitality sector however, always found dreaming of a life of performing and teaching!It is this dream that led Andrew to launching his School of Music – providing private tuition in Voice, Drum Kit and Music Theory!

Sarah Muir

Sales & Marketing Administrator

Sarah joined the Andrew Jay team at the end of February 2021.

Sarah is also a performer and went to The BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology where she studied Dance.

For well over 10 years, Sarah has taught dance at a local dance school. Here she studied her Dance Teacher training with the IDTA and was sharing her love for dance and performing with children across the community.

Sarah started her working life at 18 in independent local wedding shops, helping couples with various elements of their planning! She then later moved into Corporate Events Management for one of the UK’s largest banks.

She later moved into Personal Assistance, supporting Senior Managers until 2 years ago when she gave up work to become an amazing mummy to Andrew’s 2 nieces, Izzie and Amaleigh.

Yes; thats right! Sarah is indeed my big sister (though she is a lot shorter than I am)!

Henry Green

Instruments Taught: Guitar, Bass Guitar

Henry joined the teaching team at Andrew Jay’s School of Music in January 2022, teaching Guitar and Bass Guitar from his home in Oxted, Surrey.

Henry is an experienced freelance musician and composer.

Henry James has worked with an ever-expanding array of artists, producers and songwriters including Mike Stock (and related artists), James Woodrow, Harry Marshall, Lisa Canny, DB Clifford, Joe Slater and more. Genres covered include jazz, jazz-fusion, blues, funk, rock, traditional and contemporary Irish music, traditional and contemporary Syrian music and pop. In teaching, Henry takes an individualised approach, based on the needs and aspirations of specific students, whilst providing them with a solid grounding in the techniques required of musicians today.

Robert Oates

Instruments Taught: Drum Kit

Robert started playing drums at the age of 13 and after studying through the Trinity Guildhall exams, he passed with distinction at the age of 17. He went on to study Popular Music with a specialism in drums at the prestigious Leeds Conservatoire where he graduated with a 1st Class Degree. 

Robert has been a working freelance musician for 10 years with extensive recording, session and performance experience, playing at festivals and gigs up and down the country including Boomtown, Love Supreme, Live at Leeds, King Tuts Summer Nights and many more! 

When teaching Robert takes a relaxed and personal approach, ensuring each of his students have personalised lessons dedicated to their specific goals and abilities. Robert teaches his students all the necessary skills to become well rounded drummers, skills such as: solid time keeping & groove, fills and chops, creative and musicianship, technique, and many more over a wide range of genres.
