What can I expect from my lessons?
During your lessons with us, each session will be tailored specifically to you, focusing on the areas that will help you grow as both a pianist and a musician. Our goal is to guide you step by step, making sure you develop a well-rounded skill set and the confidence to express yourself through music.
Here’s a snapshot of some of the key things we’ll cover in your lessons:
-
Piano Notes/Chords/Scales – You’ll develop a deeper understanding of how notes and sounds are connected, allowing you to build a solid musical foundation.
-
Learning/Improving Your Reading – You’ll gain the ability to read music more fluently, so you can play the songs you love independently.
-
How to Produce Different Sounds – We’ll teach you how to interpret music and bring out its meaning and emotion through varied sound production.
-
Fingering Technique – You’ll learn proper finger placement and techniques, which will allow you to move up and down the keyboard quickly and effortlessly.
Each lesson is crafted to meet your needs and help you reach your musical goals!
Do I need to buy a piano or keyboard?
For your discovery session, there’s no need to worry about having an instrument! Our teachers will have a piano available for you to use during the session. The only exception to this is if you opt for home visits or online lessons, in which case you’ll need to have an appropriate instrument available to use.
When you begin your regular lessons with us, we highly recommend purchasing your own instrument so you can practice between lessons. Owning your instrument helps you commit to your learning and gives you the flexibility to practice at your own pace. Don’t worry about the cost — a new piano or keyboard doesn’t have to be expensive, and we’re here to guide you through the process with recommendations based on your needs.
If purchasing an instrument isn’t the right option for you right now, we also offer a rental service for students enrolled at Andrew Jay’s School of Music. For more details, feel free to speak to your teacher or contact the office!
